The days are shorter, and the evenings are colder. I don't mind, though. I love the cooler weather and enjoy watching the leaves go out in a blaze of colors. The only real threat is that of "cabin fever." How do I avoid it? Well, there are a lot of things that keep my attention.
1. My family - I have one in 5th grade and one stretching those wings of independence. Add to the mix my parents who are absolutely fabulous septagenarians and we've always got something interesting to talk about.
2. Cooking - It's a great stress-reliever. I hate to admit it, but the Food Network is the channel of choice. My family knows what's up though... they know that when I am feeling a bit stressed, they will eat fabulous gourmet meals. I can't help it.
3. NaNoWriMo - During the month of November I participate in a nationwide, nay, Global, writing exercise called NaNoWriMo -National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to create - from scratch - a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November. Nothing comes close to this incredible community of writers.
4. Quiet Time. That's the key. I know, some of you may be asking how quiet time could help avoid the cabin fever that comes from too much quiet time. The truth is, that there is a huge difference between being bored and being still. I have wonderful books to read, stories to write, an aquarium of fish to dance for me, all kinds of music to carry my mind on fantastic travels of imagination and emotion. All these things serve to settle my heart, but there's one thing that settles my soul. Quiet time with the Father. When I stop talking and trying to explain my position on everything, I can hear His word speak to me.
I am trying to find Terri Nelson, my former karaoke co-conspirator and best friend. Last known location was Lafayette, Indiana. If you are Terri Nelson, send me an email, eh! Girl, I hope you Google yourself soon, lol.
